Who We Are

CrossPointe Church is dedicated to developing devoted disciples of Jesus
Christ who love God with all their hearts, minds and souls, and love each
other as God loves us.

This church was established in 2002 and the name CrossPointe was born from the idea that at the point of brokenness, all we can do is look up at the cross.

We are a rapidly growing diverse group of people.  We come from many walks
of life and many different places.  Our essence is, it's not where we've
been, but where we are headed that matters.  Our desire is that
CrossPointe Church will make a difference for eternity in the lives of
people and that in all things Christ is glorified.

Our History

CrossPointe Church was started on October 5, 1996 under the name of RocketCity Community Church, in Huntsville, Alabama, by Reverend Bruce W. Martin. It was organized by an Article of Association under the Non-profit Laws of Alabama. The church decided to form a non-profit, religious corporation under Alabama Code 10-4-20 (1975) and filed Articles of Incorporation with the State of Alabama on March 10, 1998. The officers were Bruce W. Martin, Robert W. Gordon and Richard G. Turner. The church was designated as a non-denominational church, but was also affiliated with the Madison Baptist Association (under the Southern Baptist Convention) and also the Willow Creek Association.

In August of 2002, the Elder Team (Mike Gibson, Josh McNeil, Matt Laing, Alan Kaufmann, and Allen Krell) along with the church body, called Reverend John Dees as the full time teaching Elder. In December, 2002, it was decided that RocketCity Community Church would change its name to CrossPointe Church, and “The Point of New Beginnings” was incorporated into our logo. At this time, the church staff consisted of John Dees and Mrs. Lynn (Matt) Laing, who provided administrative and bookkeeping support.

In 2003, as CrossPointe Church continued to hold services at the corner of Slaughter Road and Eastview Drive in the former home of Madison Bible Church, the rate of growth soon dictated that the church would need a larger space. The property at the corner of Eastview Drive and Hughes Road (formerly the home of Madison Baptist Church) was purchased and an extensive renovation project was undertaken. After about a year and a half of hard work, the church moved into our current location at 719 Hughes Road, Madison, on October 31, 2004.

Also in 2003, CrossPointe added Mrs. Tonya (Glenn) Hayes as the Children’s Ministry Director, and Mr. Ben Bowden as Youth Pastor. Mr. Richard Anderson came on board as Part time Minister of Worship in 2003 as well. In 2004, the staff expanded yet again with the addition of Mr. Steve Kerce as part time Singles Minister and Mrs. Melodie (Mark) Valentine as the Pastoral Ministry Assistant. Mr. Haley Uhrig took over the youth ministry from Ben, as he left to pursue a job in the private sector. In 2005, Mrs. Lori (Steve) Toler became the Children’s Ministry Assistant.

In 2006, the church facility expanded once again with the purchase of the former Madison Baptist Parsonage behind the church at 808 Eastview Drive, which was renovated to house staff offices and a conference room. Classroom space was added to the gymnasium, and two brand new modular units were also purchased and placed behind the church to house the Youth Ministry and the Singles Ministry. Renovations were completed to these projects in the summer of 2007.

The staff also grew and changed in 2006, with the addition of Rev. Rex Looney as our Associate Pastor of Worship. Several part time staff provided accounting support during this year. In 2007, Mrs. Amy (Chuck) Underwood was hired as part time financial secretary and currently serves in that position. Rev. Jason Dees also came on board in 2007 as Associate Pastor over Adult Education.

Currently, CrossPointe Church averages approximately 800 regular attendees, with 312 committed to Partnership with the church. The church is still a member of the Madison Baptist Association (Southern Baptist Convention) and also the Willow Creek Association, and also continues its non-denominational status. The church employs 8 full-time staff members, and 3 part-time staff members, along with one student intern (Chris Marrazzo).
